We have spent a lot of time exploring the different corners of Puerto Vallarta. Every time we think we have seen it all, we find something new that takes our breath away. For us, there is nothing more romantic than a quiet sunset by the ocean. While the Malecon is great for people-watching, sometimes we just want to be alone and enjoy the view.
That is how we discovered our secret sunset spot in Conchas Chinas. If you haven't been there yet, you are missing out on one of the most beautiful parts of the bay. It is often called the "Beverly Hills of Puerto Vallarta" because of the stunning villas tucked into the cliffs, but the real magic is down by the water.
We want to share this experience with you so you can have that perfect romantic moment during your stay. Trust us, when the golden hour hits this part of the coast, everything looks like a dream!
Finding the Path to Paradise
Getting to Conchas Chinas is part of the fun. We usually start our walk from the south end of Los Muertos Beach in the Zona Romántica. It is a beautiful stroll that takes you along the shoreline. You will have to scramble over a few rocks here and there, but that just makes it feel like more of an adventure.
The walk from the main town area to our favorite spot takes about 40 minutes if you take your time. We love doing this walk in the late afternoon. The air starts to cool down, and the light begins to soften. It is the perfect time for a long conversation while you listen to the waves crashing against the rocks.
If you aren't feeling like a hike, you can always take a quick taxi or Uber. It is a very short drive from most rentals in puerto vallarta. But if you can, we definitely suggest walking at least one way. The views of the turquoise water against the white sand are just UNBELIEVABLE!!

The Magic of the Hidden Coves
Once you arrive in Conchas Chinas, you will notice the vibe changes immediately. It is so much quieter than the main beaches. There are these little secluded coves separated by natural rock formations. We love finding a spot on the sand where we are the only ones around.
The water here is crystal clear. Because the coves are somewhat protected, the water is often calmer than at other beaches nearby. We like to bring a small blanket and just sit and watch the tide come in. It is the best place to reconnect and escape the hustle and bustle of the city center.
There aren't many services right on the sand here, which is why it stays so peaceful. You won't find rows of umbrellas or loud music. It is just you, your partner, and the sound of the Pacific Ocean. It’s the ultimate romantic escape for any couple looking for some "us" time.
Arriving at the Mirador
If you want the absolute best view in the entire area, you have to head up to the Mirador Conchas Chinas. This is an elevated viewpoint that gives you a panoramic look at the entire Banderas Bay. We usually try to get there about 30 minutes before the sun actually sets.
The climb up to the viewpoint can be a bit steep, so make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes. We’ve seen people try it in flip-flops, but we wouldn't recommend it! Once you reach the top, the effort is immediately rewarded. You can see the coastline stretching out in both directions, with the lush green mountains meeting the deep blue sea.
This is where the "Golden Hour" really earns its name. The sky starts to turn shades of orange, pink, and deep purple. The way the light hits the white villas on the hillside is something you have to see to believe. It is the perfect spot for a few couple photos to remember your trip.

Making the Most of Golden Hour
To have the best experience, we have learned a few tricks over the years. First, check the sunset time on your phone! It sounds simple, but the sun sets at different times depending on the season. You don't want to hike all that way only to realize you missed the main event.
We always pack a couple of bottles of water and maybe a light snack. Since there aren't many shops in this residential area, you want to be prepared. We also suggest using biodegradable sunscreen if you plan on dipping your toes in the water before the sun goes down.
If you are looking for other romantic things to do after your sunset mission, we have plenty of ideas. Why We Love This Area
Conchas Chinas has a special place in our hearts. It represents the natural beauty of Puerto Vallarta that hasn't been changed by too much development. It feels authentic and wild, even though it is just a few minutes away from world-class dining and nightlife.
As a couple, we find that these moments of stillness are the highlights of our travels. Sitting on those rocks, watching the sun dip below the horizon, reminds us why we love living and working here. We want every guest who stays with us to feel that same sense of wonder.
Whether you are here for a week or a month, make sure you carve out one evening for this. Even if you aren't "outdoorsy" people, the view from the Mirador is accessible enough for anyone to enjoy. It is truly a world-class experience that doesn't require a ticket or a reservation.

Where to Stay for the Best Views

Many of our condo and apartment rentals puerto vallarta feature incredible balconies where you can actually see the sunset without even leaving your room! There is nothing like waking up to the sound of the ocean and knowing you are just a short walk away from the most beautiful beaches in Mexico.
We love helping our guests find the perfect spot. Whether you want to be right in the middle of the Zona Romántica or tucked away in a quieter neighborhood, we have options that fit the "couple goals" vibe perfectly. We focus on creating spaces that are comfortable, modern, and full of local charm.

Final Thoughts on Conchas Chinas
There are so many rentals puerto vallarta offers, but being near the Conchas Chinas area is truly special. It gives you the best of both worlds: the excitement of the city and the peace of the coast.
Watching the sky change colors over the Pacific is a spiritual experience for us. It never gets old. We have seen hundreds of sunsets here, and every single one is unique. The way the clouds catch the light and the way the shadows dance on the Sierra Madre mountains is just AMAZING!!
We hope you take the time to find your own secret spot on this beach. Whether it’s a specific rock you sit on or a favorite trail you discover, Conchas Chinas has plenty of secrets waiting to be found. Just remember to slow down, hold hands, and enjoy the show that nature puts on every single night.
Spending an evening at the Conchas Chinas Mirador or on its secluded beaches is a highlight of any trip to Puerto Vallarta. It is romantic, peaceful, and visually stunning.
Highly recommended.
