I’m Jeff, the pvkid and owner of The PVGirl, and I have to tell you, there is absolutely nothing like a quiet afternoon in Conchas Chinas.
If you have stayed with us before, you know we LOVE the energy of Old Town. But sometimes, you just need to get away from the crowds and find a spot that feels like your own private secret. For couples looking for that ultimate romantic spark, Conchas Chinas is the place. We call it our "romantic hideaway" for a reason.
It is tucked away just south of the main city area, often called the "Beverly Hills of Puerto Vallarta." But don't let that fancy nickname fool you. It’s not about being flashy. It’s about the peace, the crashing waves, and those incredible rock formations that create the most intimate little swimming holes you’ve ever seen.
The Walk to Paradise
We started our late afternoon by walking south from the end of Los Muertos beach. If you are a couple who loves a good stroll, this is a must-do. You just follow the shoreline.
As you leave the hustle of the beach clubs behind, the atmosphere changes instantly. The music fades, the shouting of vendors disappears, and all you hear is the rhythm of the Pacific Ocean.
The path can be a little rocky in spots, but that’s part of the fun! We were holding hands, hopping over small tide pools, and just enjoying the fresh salt air. It felt like we were the only two people in the world.

Finding Our Secret Spot
Conchas Chinas beach is famous for its "conchas" (shells) and "chinas" (Chinese-style curves or pebbles). The sand is golden and soft, but the real stars are the rock formations.
They create these tiny, natural pools of warm seawater. We found a perfect little nook between two large rocks where we could just sit and watch the tide come in. The water here is a fascinating deep blue-green. It’s so clear you can see tiny fish darting around your ankles!
We spent a good hour just sitting there, talking about everything and nothing. No phones, no distractions. Just the sound of the ocean and the warmth of the sun on our skin. This is exactly what a apartaento de mi sueno should feel like.
Why We Love Conchas Chinas
Most people stay right in the heart of Old Town, and we get it, the energy is AMAZING! But taking a few hours to escape to Conchas Chinas gives you a totally different perspective of the bay.
The cliffs are covered in lush green jungle and beautiful villas. It feels very secluded. Because there aren't many big resorts right on this stretch of sand, it stays very quiet, especially on weekdays.
We noticed a few other couples spread out along the 2,700-foot length of the beach, but everyone had their own private space. It’s the perfect spot to whisper sweet nothings and just be present with each other.

A Place to Call Home
When we were done exploring the beach, we headed back up toward the winding roads of the neighborhood. The views from the hillside here are just spectacular.
If you want to stay somewhere that captures this exact feeling of peace and romance, you have to check out our rental properties in puerto vallarta. Being just high enough to see the entire Banderas Bay while still being close enough to walk to the beach is the ultimate luxury.
We love the way the light hits the rooms in the late afternoon. Everything turns golden. It makes you want to just curl up and stay forever.

The Main Event: The Sunset
As the clock ticked toward 6:00 PM, the real show started. Puerto Vallarta sunsets are world-famous, but watching one from Conchas Chinas is a whole different experience.
The sky started to turn a soft dusty rose, then shifted into vibrant oranges and deep purples. Because of the way the coastline curves, you get a front-row seat as the sun dips right into the Pacific.
We sat on a large flat rock near the water's edge. The "sunset whispers" we named this post after? That’s the sound of the wind picking up just as the sun disappears. It’s like the ocean is letting out a long, happy sigh.
It was SOOO beautiful! We honestly didn't want to move. We just watched the colors fade into twilight, and then the city lights of Puerto Vallarta started to twinkle in the distance.

Making Memories Together
One of the best things about being a couple in PV is that you can have so many different types of experiences in one day. You can have a high-energy morning in the city, and then a totally zen afternoon in the "hideaway" of Conchas Chinas.
If you enjoy this kind of peaceful vibe, you should definitely read about our sunset stroll on the Malecón. It’s a bit more social than Conchas Chinas, but just as romantic in its own way.
Or, if you’re looking for a bit more excitement after your quiet afternoon, check out our post on a Friday night romantic walk (though that one is great for solo explorers too, we love the romantic route!).
Why You Need This
Life gets busy. We all get caught up in work and stress. But coming here, even just for a few hours, resets everything.
We saw several couples just sitting in silence, taking it all in. It’s a reminder that the best things in life aren’t things, they are these moments of pure connection.
We feel so lucky that we get to call this place home and share it with you. Whether you are celebrating an anniversary or just need some quality time together, Conchas Chinas will not disappoint you.
Some Practical Tips for Your Romantic Afternoon
- Wear comfortable sandals: The walk from Los Muertos involves some sand and some rocks.
- Bring a small towel: You will definitely want to dip your feet in those rock pools!
- Arrive about two hours before sunset: This gives you plenty of time to explore and find "your" spot before the light starts to change.
- Stay for the "Blue Hour": Don't leave the second the sun goes down. The 20 minutes after sunset are often the most colorful and peaceful.
We are constantly posting updates and beautiful views of the bay on our Instagram, so make sure to follow along there for more romantic inspiration!
Our Final Thoughts
Conchas Chinas is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and intimate spots in all of Puerto Vallarta. It’s quiet, it’s stunningly beautiful, and it feels like a world away from the busy tourist zones.
If you are planning a trip with your partner, please make sure to put this on your list. It’s the kind of experience that stays with you long after you fly back home.
We highly recommend spending at least one late afternoon here just "being." No plans, no reservations, just you, your favorite person, and the whispers of the sunset.
It truly is magical! We can’t wait for you to experience it for yourselves.
See you in paradise!
