I have lived in Puerto Vallarta my whole life.
I have seen thousands of sunsets here.
But let me tell you, they NEVER get old.

Everyone knows the Malecón.
It is the heart of the city.
But if you want the best view without fighting for space, you have to go early.
Most people wait until the sun is almost gone.
We recommend finding a spot near the Seahorse statue about 45 minutes before.
The light at that time is AMAZING.
It makes the white walls of the old buildings glow.
If you like a bit of a walk, keep heading south toward the pier.
The pier itself is like a giant piece of art.
Watching the lights come on as the sun goes down is just beautiful.
But best of all, the breeze from the ocean keeps you cool after a long day of exploring.
It is a great place to start your evening before heading to a nice dinner.

Mirador El Cerro de la Cruz
Okay, this one is for the couples who don't mind a little exercise.
It is a steep walk.
REALLY steep.
But I promise the view from the top is the best in the entire bay.
You get a 360-degree look at the mountains and the sea.
The Sierra Madre looks so majestic when the sun hits the peaks.
When you reach the top, you can see all of Zona Romántica laid out below you.
It is a great spot to take photos.
The high contrast of the orange sky against the dark green jungle is incredible.
Bring a bottle of water and maybe a little snack.
There is something so special about sitting up there, away from the noise, just watching the world turn gold.
We highly recommend doing this at least once during your stay.
Gringo Gulch and the Bridge of Love
This is one of my personal favorite "secrets."
Gringo Gulch is the hillside area just above the main church.
It is full of history and beautiful old villas.
There is a small bridge there called the "Bridge of Love."
It connected the two houses of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
It is very romantic and usually very quiet.
Walking through these cobblestone streets at sunset feels like stepping back in time.
The bougainvillea flowers are everywhere.
They look so vibrant in the evening light.
You can look down over the red-tiled roofs and see the ocean in the distance.
It is peaceful and perfect for a slow, romantic stroll.
