If you are looking for that perfect, quiet moment with your partner in Puerto Vallarta, you have to get away from the main crowds.
I have lived here and explored these hills for years, and let me tell you, Amapas is where the magic happens.
It is tucked right between the busy energy of the Romantic Zone and the fancy cliffs of Conchas Chinas.
But best of all, it has these amazing "secret" paths that most people just walk right past.
My partner and I love taking late afternoon walks here because the light is just… WOW.
If you are a couple looking for a romantic escape, you need to find the secluded stairs.
These aren't your typical city stairs; they are stone, winding, and surrounded by the most BEAUTIFUL jungle plants you’ve ever seen.
It feels like you are in a movie, honestly.
Finding the Hidden Path
Most people stay on the main road, but the real secret is the coastal path.
You start at the end of Los Muertos beach, right near the famous El Púlpito rock.
There is a set of stairs that climbs up and over the hill toward Amapas beach.
I remember the first time we found them: we weren't even sure where they led!
But that is the best part of being in PV. You just explore and find something AMAZING.
The stairs are a bit steep in spots, so definitely wear some comfy shoes.
But every single step is worth it for the view.

As you walk, you’ll see the turquoise water crashing against the rocks below.
The sound is so relaxing and quiet compared to the music on the main beaches.
We often stop halfway up just to catch our breath and look at the bay.
It’s the perfect place to just hold hands and take it all in.
If you are staying in one of our zona romantica puerto vallarta rentals, you are actually super close to this trailhead.
It’s such a quick walk from the heart of town, but it feels like a different world.
The Jungle Meets the Sea
What I LOVE about Amapas is how green it is.
The Sierra Madre mountains literally come right down to touch the ocean here.
You’ll see giant palm trees, bright pink bougainvillea, and maybe even a few iguanas sunning themselves on the rocks.
It is so peaceful and lush.
We like to call it our "secret garden" walk.
The path eventually leads you down to Amapas Beach, which is much smaller and quieter than Los Muertos.
It’s a great spot if you just want to sit on the sand without a million people around.
We usually bring a little bottle of water and just sit there for a while.
The vibe is very low-key and romantic.

If you love this kind of quiet, nature-focused energy, you should definitely check out our post on The Romantic Retreat.
It talks all about the best quiet spots in the area for couples.
Chasing the Secret Sunset
Now, let's talk about the real reason we go on these walks: the sunsets.
Everyone knows the sunsets in Puerto Vallarta are world-class.
But watching them from a crowded restaurant isn't always what you want.
Sometimes you want it to be just the two of you.
There is a specific spot on the rocks between Amapas and Conchas Chinas that is just perfect.
The sky turns these crazy shades of orange, purple, and gold.
Because Amapas faces west, you get the absolute best front-row seat to the show.
It is SOOO romantic.
We’ve seen people get engaged here, and I totally get why!
After the sun goes down, the walk back is just as beautiful.
The lights of the city start to twinkle across the water.
It makes you feel so lucky to be here.

Your Perfect Home Base
After a long walk exploring the stairs and the beaches, you need a comfy place to crash.
That is where we come in!
We are a local, family-run business and we love helping couples find their perfect spot.
Our puerto vallarta rentals old town are designed for people who want that authentic local feel.
No big corporate hotels here: just cozy, beautiful spaces with incredible views.

We take a lot of pride in making sure our guests feel at home.
Whether you are working remotely as a digital nomad or just here for a week of romance, we've got you.
Our places have plenty of natural light and big windows so you never miss a sunset.
Plus, they are located in the best parts of town.
You can be at a world-class dinner in five minutes, or on a "secret" jungle path in ten.
It really is the best of both worlds.
Why Amapas is Special
A lot of people ask me why I recommend Amapas over other areas.
It’s because it feels real.
The buildings are low-rise and traditional, so you don't feel like you're in a concrete jungle.
The streets are cobble-stoned and curvy.
It has a personality that you just don't find in the big resort zones.
For a couple, that privacy and character are everything.
You want memories that feel unique to your trip.
Walking those secluded stairs and finding your own private sunset spot does exactly that.

I highly recommend taking at least one afternoon to just get lost in the Amapas hills.
Don't worry about a map: just follow the stairs and see where they take you.
You might find a hidden cove, a beautiful old villa, or a viewpoint that takes your breath away.
It is the best way to see the "real" Puerto Vallarta.
Final Thoughts for Your Trip
If you are planning your visit, keep these tips in mind:
- Go around 5:30 PM. This gives you plenty of time to walk before the sun starts to set.
- Bring a camera. You are going to want photos of these views, trust me!
- Stay local. Supporting family-run businesses helps keep PV the way it is.
We would LOVE to host you during your stay.
