When I lived in the heart of town, I found the absolute BEST place to disconnect for an hour. It is a tiny, hidden cove called Playa Amapas.

The Best Mid-Day Escape
Playa Amapas is tucked away just south of the main beach. It feels a world away from the busy beach clubs and vendors of Los Muertos.
I LOVE it because it feels calm and low-key, and no one is trying to sell you silver jewelry every five minutes. It is just you, the sand, and the bright blue water.
It is the perfect place to clear your head. I often bring a book and just sit under the shade of a tree for sixty minutes.
The silence here is sooo refreshing. It helps me focus much better when I get back to my desk for afternoon work.
How to Get There
Getting to Amapas is half the fun!
Start at the south end of Playa Los Muertos. You will see a big rock formation. Look for the little stone stairs carved right into the side of the cliff.
I highly recommend wearing sandals with a back strap for this. The rocks can be a bit slippery when wet!
You walk up the stairs, over the hill, and suddenly you are looking down at this gorgeous, secluded cove. It feels like a secret garden on the edge of the ocean.

Tips for Your Visit
Since Playa Amapas is a natural, rugged beach, there are no stores or bathrooms.
I always pack a small bag with:
- A large bottle of water
- My favorite book
- A high-quality sunscreen
- A towel
I usually stay for about an hour or two. The water is usually very clear and great for a quick dip to cool off.
But best of all, the walk back into the puerto vallarta rentals old town area takes you right past some of the best local fruit vendors. I always grab a cup of fresh mango with lime on my way back to my apartment.
The Digital Nomad Routine
My routine was simple but effective.
Deep work from 8 AM to noon. A quick walk to Playa Amapas for a swim. A delicious lunch at a nearby taco stand. Then back to the apartment for afternoon meetings.
Having a quiet place like Amapas nearby makes a HUGE difference in your productivity. It is my favorite way to avoid burnout while traveling.
