Amapas After the Beach: A Calm Evening Plan for Couples

We are local Puerto Vallarta hosts, born and raised here, and we know Amapas well. We spend plenty of time walking its hills, checking beach access, and helping guests plan relaxed days without rushing from one attraction to the next.
For couples, Amapas is one of the best neighborhoods to stay in Puerto Vallarta. It gives you easy access to the beach and Zona Romántica/Old Town. But it also gives you a calm place to return to when the day gets busy.
This is our favorite simple plan for an evening after the beach.
1. Leave the beach before you feel tired
Start at Amapas Beach while you still have plenty of energy. It is a smaller beach area with a more relaxed feel than the busiest parts of Puerto Vallarta.
Spend time in the water, read under an umbrella, or simply sit together and listen to the waves. You do not need a long activity list here. Amapas works best when you slow down.
Before leaving, rinse off the sand if you can. Pack your beach items carefully. Comfortable sandals or sneakers will make the rest of the evening much easier.
The walk from the beach toward Los Muertos and Zona Romántica/Old Town includes uneven pavement, stairs, and hillside sections. It is very manageable, but formal shoes are not the best choice.

2. Take the scenic route toward dinner
After the beach, walk slowly toward Los Muertos Beach and the nearby pier. You can follow the coastline for part of the route, then move inland when you are ready.
This is not a hike. It is an easy neighborhood wander with plenty of places to pause.
We love this part of the evening because Amapas changes as you move downhill. The quiet hillside gives way to more local movement. You see small cafés, colorful buildings, independent shops, and people heading out for dinner.
If you are visiting as a couple, use this walk to talk without checking your phones. If you are working remotely, this is also a great way to mentally close your laptop for the day.
Digital nomad life in Puerto Vallarta can be wonderfully flexible. Still, it helps to create a clear line between work time and personal time. A walk from the beach is a simple way to make that shift.

3. Choose an easy local dinner
For a calm evening, do not overthink dinner.
You can choose a small taco stand, a casual seafood spot, or a sit-down restaurant near Basilio Badillo. This part of Zona Romántica/Old Town has many choices close together, so you can look around before deciding.
We often recommend starting with something local and simple. Try tacos with fresh salsa, ceviche, grilled seafood, or a plate made with seasonal ingredients.
A casual meal can feel more connected to Puerto Vallarta than a formal dinner that keeps you at the table for hours. You can share a few dishes, ask the server what is fresh, and enjoy the pace of the neighborhood.
If you prefer a quieter sit-down meal, arrive a little earlier than the busiest dinner period. That gives you more time to choose a comfortable table and enjoy a slower conversation.
Bring comfortable clothing from the beach. A clean shirt or light cover-up is usually enough for a relaxed night out. Amapas evenings do not need to feel formal.
4. Add one small treat
After dinner, get one small treat to share.
It could be a paleta, ice cream, churro, or something from a local street vendor. We love this part because it keeps the evening light.
Walk toward Lázaro Cárdenas Park or continue toward the Malecón if you still feel like exploring. You do not need to walk the entire boardwalk. Even a short stretch gives you music, public art, ocean air, and plenty of local activity.
If your legs are tired, stop at a bench and enjoy the atmosphere. Couples sometimes feel pressure to keep moving while traveling. We think the best evenings often include a quiet pause.
5. Decide when to head back
Amapas sits uphill from the beach and Zona Romántica/Old Town. Walking back can be pleasant, but the climb is real.
If you still have energy, take the stairs slowly and enjoy the cooler air. Keep water with you. Wear shoes with a good grip.
If you are tired, take a short ride back instead. This is especially helpful if you are carrying beach items or have spent the day in the sun.
Once you return, keep the night simple. Take a shower, open the balcony doors if the air feels comfortable, and enjoy the view from your own space.

A quiet home base makes the plan better
The right place to stay changes the entire rhythm of your trip.
Our Puerto Vallarta condos for rent by owner at Casa CC sit in the upper part of Amapas. The one-bedroom condo has a king bed, air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, a stocked kitchen, and a balcony with panoramic bay and mountain views.
It is close enough to walk to the beach and Zona Romántica/Old Town. But it also feels peaceful when you return.
That balance matters if you are a couple sharing vacation time with remote work. One person can relax while the other finishes a call. You can prepare something light in the kitchen instead of going back out. You can enjoy a quiet evening without feeling disconnected from the city.
Casa CC is also a good fit if you want a local stay instead of a large, impersonal resort experience. We greet our guests, answer questions, and share the local details that make a visit feel more personal.
If you are comparing Zona Romántica Puerto Vallarta rentals, Hummingbird is another peaceful Amapas option. It offers a comfortable retreat with a partial ocean view, fast Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a kitchen, and a king bed.
Both spaces work well for couples who want to stay near the action while keeping their evenings calm.

A version for working couples
If you are spending part of your trip working remotely, adjust the plan slightly.
Finish your workday before leaving the condo. Save your last emails, close your laptop, and take a short break before heading to the beach.
At the beach, do not bring work with you. Even thirty quiet minutes beside the water can help you reset.
Then follow the same route: beach, slow walk, local dinner, shared treat, and home.
This works well for a Puerto Vallarta digital nomad couple because it does not require a long drive or complicated reservations. You can enjoy the neighborhood around you and still be back at your workspace when needed.

Our practical tips for a smoother evening
- Wear walking shoes with good grip.
- Bring a reusable water bottle.
- Keep your beach bag light.
- Carry a small amount of cash for casual vendors.
- Keep your phone and valuables secure while walking.
- Choose well-lit streets when heading home.
- Ask us which local spots are open and busy that evening.
- Leave space in your schedule for an unplanned stop.
That last tip is important. Amapas is not about checking off every attraction. It is about enjoying the small details: a colorful plate of tacos, a view between buildings, a cool drink, or a quiet conversation on the way home.
