I am a total coffee addict. There, I said it!! But for me, it isn't just about the caffeine kick in the morning. It is about that magical 4 PM moment. You know the one. The workday is winding down, the heat of the afternoon is just starting to mellow, and my brain needs a serious reset.
Living in Puerto Vallarta, I’ve made it my personal mission to find the perfect spots for these "Afternoon Sips." And honestly? Nowhere beats the Amapas neighborhood. It is tucked right between the busy Zona Romántica and the lush hills of Conchas Chinas. It’s quiet, it’s beautiful, and it has some of the most AMAZING beach views you will ever see.
If you are a solo traveler or a couple looking for a peaceful break, you have to follow my lead. I’ve spent months exploring these little corners of paradise. I’ve tested the Wi-Fi, tasted the espresso, and stared at the turquoise water until my eyes hurt (in a good way!).
Why Amapas is the Place to Be
I LOVE the vibe in Amapas. It feels like a secret garden that only the locals know about. While the main beach in the Romantic Zone can get a little crowded with umbrellas and music, Amapas is where you go when you want to hear the waves.
The streets are narrower, the trees are greener, and everything feels a bit more "real." We always tell our guests at The PVGirl that if they want a true local experience, they need to take the stairs down to the beach here. It’s a bit of a workout, but the reward is SOOO worth it.

When I’m out for my 4 PM stroll, I usually start high up on the hill. The view of the Bay of Banderas from the upper streets is breathtaking. You can see the tiny fishing boats bobbing in the water and the low-rise buildings nestled into the jungle. It’s the perfect place to clear your head before heading down for a snack.
The Best Coffee with a View
Finding a good spot for a 4 PM coffee is an art form. You want somewhere with a breeze, plenty of shade, and, most importantly, a clear line of sight to the ocean. There are a few tiny, local spots near the beach stairs that I absolutely adore.
I usually look for the places that don't have big signs. The ones where you can sit at a small wooden table, open your laptop for thirty minutes, and just breathe. If you are curious about where else to set up your mobile office, check out my guide on a Remote Work Paradise for more neighborhood tips!
One of my favorite things to do is grab a cold brew and a small plate of fresh ceviche. It sounds like a weird combo, right? But trust me: the acidity of the lime and the bitterness of the coffee is the ultimate wake-up call.

Making the Most of Your Digital Nomad Life
If you are working remotely like I often do, you know that the "afternoon slump" is real. By 4 PM, I’ve usually been staring at a screen for hours. My eyes are tired, and I’m starting to lose focus.
That’s when I pack up my bag and head out. I don't go far, just enough to change the scenery. Amapas is perfect for this because it’s so walkable. You can go from your desk to the sand in less than ten minutes.
I highly recommend taking a "slow afternoon" at least once a week. It’s one of the reasons I wrote about my Solo Sunday experience, too. Taking that time for yourself makes a HUGE difference in your productivity. You come back feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of your to-do list.
Where to Stay for the Best Views
If you want these views every single day (and why wouldn't you?!), you need to stay in the right spot. We have two incredible properties that put you right in the heart of this tropical dream.
First up is Casa CC. If you are looking for puerto vallarta vacation condos that offer that authentic, family-run feel, this is it. It has that perfect blend of comfort and style, and the views are just UNBEATABLE. You can literally watch the ocean while you drink your morning coffee from your own private space.

Then there is Casa Opportunity. This is one of our most popular rentals in puerto vallarta for a reason. It is bright, modern, and so peaceful. It’s the kind of place where you can actually hear the birds in the morning and the ocean at night. We love hosting couples here because it feels so private and romantic.
The 5 PM Taco Transition
Now, here is the secret. Once you finish your 4 PM coffee and the sun starts to dip a little lower (but is still bright and beautiful!), it is time for the best part of the day. The taco transition!
Amapas and the surrounding areas have some of the BEST street food in the city. You don't need a fancy restaurant with a white tablecloth. You just need a local stand, some fresh salsa, and a few handmade tortillas.

I always tell our guests to look for the stands with the most locals standing around. That is how you know it's good! There is nothing better than finishing a light workday with a couple of tacos al pastor while looking out at the water. It is the ultimate Puerto Vallarta experience.
A Few Quick Tips for Your Afternoon Walk:
- Wear comfortable shoes: The stairs in Amapas are no joke!
- Bring a hat: The 4 PM sun is still quite strong.
- Keep it local: Support the small cafes and family-run stands.
- Stay hydrated: Coffee is great, but don't forget your water!
We absolutely LOVE sharing our favorite local spots with our guests. It’s what we do! Final Thoughts
Spending my afternoons in Amapas has changed the way I work and travel. It reminds me to slow down and enjoy the small things: like a perfect cup of coffee or a fresh taco by the sea. If you are planning a trip soon, I highly recommend spending an afternoon (or ten!) in this neighborhood.
It is peaceful, it is authentic, and it is exactly what a vacation should feel like. Whether you are staying at Casa CC or Casa Opportunity, you are going to fall in LOVE with this part of town. I promise!
See you on the beach!!
