I am Jeff, the owner here at The PVGirl, but most people just call me the pvkid. I have spent a massive amount of time living and eating in the Romantic Zone. People often ask me if it is weird to eat alone in Puerto Vallarta. My answer is always a loud NO!! <\/p>\n

Actually, I LOVE solo dining here. It is my favorite way to experience the city. You get to move at your own pace. You can watch the world go by on the cobblestone streets. You never have to argue about which restaurant to pick. <\/p>\n

The Romantic Zone: or Old Town as we often call it: is a foodie paradise. It is packed with flavor and energy. If you are a solo traveler, this neighborhood is your playground. The people are friendly and the food is AMAZING. <\/p>\n

In this guide, I want to share my personal favorite spots. These are the places where I feel most at home when I am out by myself. <\/p>\n

Why Solo Dining in Old Town is the Best<\/h3>\n

When I eat alone, I feel more connected to the city. I notice the smell of the salt air mixing with grilled meat. I hear the musicians wandering the streets. I can snag a seat at the bar when there is a hour-long wait for a table. <\/p>\n

It is a total power move. You get the best service because the staff can easily fit you in. Plus, the Romantic Zone is incredibly safe and welcoming. You are never really "alone" because someone will always strike up a conversation if you want them to. <\/p>\n

Joe Jack's Fish Shack: The King of Bar Seating<\/h3>\n

If you are looking for the absolute best place to sit at a bar and eat, this is it. Joe Jack's is a staple in the Romantic Zone. I have been coming here for years.<\/p>\n

The downstairs bar is where you want to be. It is lively and bright. The bartenders are SOOO friendly. I usually order the fish tacos. They are legendary for a reason. <\/p>\n

The crust is crunchy and the fish is always fresh. I also highly recommend the ginger mojitos. They are super refreshing on a hot Vallarta afternoon. Being alone here is great because you can chat with the person next to you or just watch the kitchen hustle. <\/p>\n

\"Solo<\/p>\n

Archie\u2019s Wok: A Peaceful Oasis<\/h3>\n

Sometimes the energy of the Romantic Zone can be a lot. When I want something a bit more quiet and cozy, I head to Archie\u2019s Wok. It is tucked away near the pier. <\/p>\n

The history of this place is cool: Archie was actually the personal chef for John Huston! The food is a blend of Asian flavors that hits the spot every time. I always go for the Thai Mai or the cashew chicken. <\/p>\n

It is a very comfortable spot for a solo diner. The lighting is low and the vibe is very "chill." It is one of those places where you can bring a book and nobody will bother you. <\/p>\n

Tacos, Tacos, and More Tacos<\/h3>\n

You cannot talk about food in Old Town without mentioning street tacos. This is the ultimate solo dining experience. You stand on the corner, you eat with your hands, and you are surrounded by locals and travelers alike. <\/p>\n

Pancho\u2019s Takos is the famous one. The line is usually long, but if you are solo, you can often find a single stool at the counter much faster. Their Al Pastor is life-changing. I am serious!! It is the best in the city. <\/p>\n

But don't stop there. There are taco stands on almost every corner. I love just walking until I see a stand with a crowd. That is how you find the hidden gems. <\/p>\n

\"Bright,<\/p>\n

Los Muertos Brewing: Pizza and Community<\/h3>\n

If you are craving some comfort food and a good craft beer, go to Los Muertos Brewing. It is a local favorite. They have large communal tables and a great bar area. <\/p>\n

I love their pizza. The thin crust is perfect. Since I am usually there by myself, I grab a seat at the bar and talk to the regulars. It is a very social environment. <\/p>\n

It is also a great place to catch a game on TV. It feels like a neighborhood pub where everyone knows your name. I highly recommend the Agave Maria beer. It is unique and SOOO delicious. <\/p>\n

Dining with a View<\/h3>\n

Even without going to a "fancy" place, you can find great views. I love spots where I can sit on the sidewalk and watch the sunset. <\/p>\n

Tuna Azul is one of those spots. It is upstairs, but it looks right down onto the busy street corner. You get a front-row seat to the chaos and beauty of the Romantic Zone. <\/p>\n

The Joy of Cooking Solo<\/h3>\n

While I love eating out, sometimes I just want to stay in. This is why I love our Puerto Vallarta vacation rentals<\/a>. Having a full kitchen is a total game changer. <\/p>\n

I often walk to the local market, buy some fresh shrimp and a few avocados, and head back to my place. There is something so peaceful about cooking for yourself while looking out at the mountains. <\/p>\n

  1. Eat Early or Late<\/strong>: If you want a popular spot, go during the "off" hours. You will get a seat instantly.<\/li>\n
  2. Use the Bar<\/strong>: Most restaurants in the Romantic Zone have bar seating. It is the best place for solo travelers.<\/li>\n
  3. Be Bold<\/strong>: Don't be afraid to try the street food. It is where the real soul of the city is.<\/li>\n
  4. Put the Phone Down<\/strong>: Try to just sit and observe. The people-watching in Old Town is world-class.<\/li>\n
  5. Ask the Waiters<\/strong>: They always know what is freshest that day.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The Flavor of the Streets<\/h3>\n

    The Romantic Zone is more than just restaurants. It is a sensory experience. I love walking down Basilio Badillo and smelling the different kitchens. <\/p>\n

    One minute you smell garlic and butter, the next you smell spicy chili and lime. It is intoxicating. Every time I go out, I find a new little hole-in-the-wall that I want to try. <\/p>\n

    Dining solo in the Romantic Zone is not just "okay": it is the BEST way to do it. You are in total control of your culinary journey. <\/p>\n

    Whether you are eating a 20-peso taco on a street corner or a beautiful seafood dinner at a sit-down restaurant, you are going to have a great time. The energy of this neighborhood is contagious. <\/p>\n

    I highly recommend Joe Jack's for the vibe, Archie's for the peace, and Pancho's for the flavor. But mostly, I recommend just following your nose. <\/p>\n

    Puerto Vallarta is a city that loves to eat. And as a solo traveler, you are an honored guest at every table. <\/p>\n
