height: auto;">

I have lived in Puerto Vallarta for a long time, but my love for the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood never fades.

It is the kind of place that feels like the "real" Mexico.

While most people head straight for the bustling crowds of Zona Romántica, I often find myself walking the other way.

There is a specific kind of magic here in the early morning.

The air is still cool, the sun is just starting to hit the orange and yellow walls of the houses, and the smell of fresh corn tortillas is everywhere.

If you are a solo traveller, this neighborhood is an absolute gem.

It is safe, compact, and full of hidden spots that make you feel like a local rather than a tourist.

Yesterday, I decided to take myself on a solo date to soak it all in.

Here is what a perfect morning looks like in 5 de Diciembre.

The First Sip: Café Oro Verde

My morning always starts with a desperate need for caffeine.

I headed straight to Café Oro Verde.

It is a tiny, unfussy spot that takes coffee very seriously.

They roast their own beans right there, and the smell alone is enough to wake you up.

I ordered a bold espresso and sat on a small stool, watching the neighborhood come to life.

There were no loud groups or screaming children: just me, my coffee, and the sound of the roaster humming in the background.

It was bliss.

The quality of the brew is honestly unparalleled in this part of town.

If you are a coffee lover, this place is highly recommended.

Walking the Cobblestones

After my espresso kicked in, I started walking toward the hills.

5 de Diciembre is famous for its steep, cobblestone streets.

It is a great workout, but best of all, the views get better with every step.

I passed small grocery stores where owners were sweeping their doorsteps and saying "buenos días" to everyone who walked by.

I love that about this area.

It is a true family-run neighborhood where everyone knows each other.

Supporting these local businesses is a huge part of what we do at The PVGirl.

We are a local, family-run business ourselves, born and raised right here in Vallarta.

Providing an authentic local experience for our guests is what makes my job so rewarding.

I stopped at a small fruit vendor near the Ley supermarket area.

The mangoes were perfectly ripe and glowing under the morning sun.

I bought a bag of sliced fruit for later and kept moving toward the ocean.

A Sweet Treat at Shekinah

You cannot walk through 5 de Diciembre without stopping at Shekinah Café.

This place has such a homey, welcoming feel.

I went in specifically for their famous cinnamon rolls.

They are warm, sticky, and probably the best in the entire city.

As a solo traveler, I find it so easy to just grab a seat by the window and enjoy a quiet moment.

Nobody rushes you here.

It is the perfect spot to plan your day or just people-watch.

If you want to know more about why this city is so great for people traveling alone, you should check out Solo in the City: Why Puerto Vallarta is a Haven for Remote Workers.

It really captures that feeling of freedom you get here.

The Calm of Playa Camarones

With my cinnamon roll in hand, I walked down to Playa Camarones.

This is the beach that runs along the edge of 5 de Diciembre.

In the morning, it is incredibly peaceful.

There are no beach clubs blasting music yet.

Just the sound of the waves hitting the shore and a few locals taking their morning dip.

I sat on the sand for a while, just looking out at the Bay of Banderas.

The water was a deep, shimmering blue.

It is much quieter than the beaches further south, which I LOVE.

If you are looking for a similar vibe in another part of town, my Sunrise Serenity: My Favorite Solo Morning Routine in Amapas post shares some other great spots.

But there is something about the "raw" feeling of 5 de Diciembre that hits different.

Finding Your Home Base

After my walk, I headed back to check on one of our properties.

Staying in this neighborhood gives you such a different perspective than staying in a big hotel.

Our puerto vallarta vacation condos are designed to make you feel like you actually live here.

We offer personalized service to all our guests because we want you to have that insider knowledge.

Whether it is the best taco stand or a quiet hiking trail, we are here to help.

For those of you who work while you travel, being a puerto vallarta digital nomad is so much easier when you have a dedicated workspace and high-speed internet.

Many of our studios feature stone accent walls and local art that bring the vibe of the streets right into your room.

Why 5 de Diciembre?

So, why choose this neighborhood for your solo morning?

It is simple.

It is authentic.

It is where the colorful sunrises meet the real daily life of Vallarta.

You won't find high-rise towers blocking your view of the mountains here.

Instead, you get red-tiled roofs, bougainvillea spilling over walls, and the sound of the ocean.

It is a place where you can find genuine calm.

I am so grateful to call this place home and to share it with you.

If you want to see more of my daily life in Vallarta, follow us on Facebook.

We love sharing photos of the sunrises and the hidden corners of our beautiful city.

My Final Recommendation

If you are coming to Puerto Vallarta alone, spend at least one morning in 5 de Diciembre.

Start early.

Get the coffee at Oro Verde.

Walk the hills.

Eat the cinnamon roll.

And then just sit by the ocean and breathe.

It is SOOO worth it.

I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see the soul of this city.

We can't wait to welcome you to one of our condos soon!

[1

post-654","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
