Gringo Gulch is a small, hilltop neighborhood in the Zona Rom\u00e1ntica area of Old Town. It is famous for its steep, winding cobblestone streets and stunning colonial architecture. But more than that, it is famous for a love story that changed Puerto Vallarta forever.<\/p>\n

The Scandal That Put Us on the Map<\/h3>\n

Our family-run business was born and raised right here in this beautiful city. We have seen it grow and change, but the history of Gringo Gulch is something we still hold dear. Back in 1963, Puerto Vallarta was just a tiny, sleepy fishing village. That all changed when the legendary director John Huston arrived to film The Night of the Iguana<\/em>.<\/p>\n

With him came Richard Burton, who brought along Elizabeth Taylor. At the time, their relationship was a massive international scandal because they were both married to other people. The world\u2019s media descended on our quiet town, and suddenly, everyone knew about the beauty of Puerto Vallarta.<\/p>\n

Burton and Taylor fell completely in love with the area. They didn't just stay for the filming: they stayed for life. Burton eventually bought a house for Elizabeth\u2019s 32nd birthday, which became known as Casa Kimberley. This area, filled with expats and high-profile visitors, eventually earned the nickname "Gringo Gulch."<\/p>\n

The architecture here is very specific. It\u2019s all low-rise buildings, white-washed walls, and heavy wrought-iron balconies. Every corner you turn, you\u2019ll see bright pink and orange bougainvillea spilling over the walls. It is so vibrant and colorful that you can\u2019t help but stop and take a dozen photos.<\/p>\n
