I love this city more than anything. But when I want to escape the hustle of the main beaches, I always head south.

Amapas is my absolute favorite place for a romantic day. It is tucked just behind the busy South Side. It feels like a world of its own. It is quiet, green, and perfect for couples.

If you are looking for the best places to stay in Puerto Vallarta, you have to look at the hillside. The views are just AMAZING!! You get to see the whole bay without the noise of the crowds.

We love helping couples find these hidden corners. It is what we do as a local business. We want you to see the real Vallarta.

The Secret Stairway to Playa Amapas

Most people stop walking at the end of Los Muertos beach. They see the big rocks and turn around. Don’t do that!

There is a set of stone stairs that leads you up and over the cliff. It is a short walk, but it changes everything. On the other side is Playa Amapas. It is a tiny, beautiful cove.

This beach is so much quieter than the main strip. There are no loud music speakers or hundreds of umbrellas. It is just the sound of the waves and the jungle.

I highly recommend bringing a towel and a good book. It is the perfect spot for a "just us" afternoon. If you are staying in one of our Puerto Vallarta rentals by owner, you are only a few minutes away from this paradise.

Walking the Rocky Point

If you keep walking south from Playa Amapas, the sand turns into rocks. There is a small path that winds along the edge of the water. This is the "Rocky Point."

I love this spot during the bright daylight. The water is so blue here. You can see the small fish swimming near the rocks. It is very atmospheric.

It is a great place to stop and take photos. The coastline looks dramatic and wild. It feels like you are far away from the city, even though the Zona Romántica is right behind you.

We always tell our guests to wear good sandals for this walk. The rocks can be a bit slippery, but the view is SOOO worth it!

The Private Coves of Conchas Chinas

Just past the rocky point, you will find the coves of Conchas Chinas. These are like little private swimming pools made by nature.

The water here is often very clear. It is turquoise and beautiful. We love to go snorkeling here. You don’t need a boat or a tour. You just walk in from the sand.

These coves are perfect for a romantic getaway Puerto Vallarta style. You can find a tiny patch of sand between two big rocks and feel like you have the whole ocean to yourself.

It is very intimate and peaceful. You won't find large groups here. It is mostly just other couples or the occasional digital nomad Puerto Vallarta taking a break from their screen.

Hillside Wandering and Hidden Benches

Amapas isn't just about the beach. The hills are where the real magic happens.

The streets here wind up into the Sierra Madre mountains. They are steep, but they offer the best scenery in the city. I love walking these streets in the late morning.

You will find small stone landings and quiet plazas. Sometimes there is just a single wooden bench under a big tropical tree.

These are the best spots to sit and talk. You can look down at the red tile roofs and the blue ocean. It is very still and calm.

If you are a couple who loves seclusion, you will adore this area. We even wrote a post about why couples love the seclusion of Amapas hillside rentals that goes into more detail about the peace you find here.

Stay Like a Local in Amapas

When you stay with us, you aren't just getting a room. We live here. We know these streets like the back of our hand.

We take pride in our vacation rentals Puerto Vallarta Mexico. We make sure every unit is clean, bright, and full of local charm.

One of our favorite spots for couples is Casa Vizcarra 1. It has such a cozy, authentic feel. It is perfect for two people who want to be close to the action but have a quiet place to return to.

If you want something with even more of a "nest" feel, you should check out Hummingbird. The views from there are simply UNFORGETTABLE!!

We love to greet our guests personally. We can tell you where to find the best taco stands and the quietest trails. Supporting a local business means you get that extra bit of care.

Why Choose Amapas Over the Busy Areas?

Many people think they want to be right in the middle of the noise. But after a day or two, they realize they want peace.

Amapas gives you the best of both worlds. You can walk down to the restaurants in the Zona Romántica in ten minutes. But when you are done, you climb back up to your quiet sanctuary.

It is great for a long-term stay too. We have many guests who stay for a month or more. They love the community feel.

If you are looking for apartments for rent in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, you should definitely read our guide before you book. It helps to have the inside scoop!

Final Thoughts on a Romantic Escape

Puerto Vallarta is a city of many faces. But for me, the face of Amapas is the most beautiful. It is green, it is blue, and it is quiet.

Whether you are here for a week or a month, make sure you take the time to find these secret spots. Walk over the stairs. Find the rocky path. Sit on a hidden bench.

We LOVE sharing our home with you.
