I am not a professional yogi. Not even close. But after spending so much time in Puerto Vallarta, I’ve learned that you don't need to be an expert to find your center. There is something absolutely magical about waking up in the heart of the Zona Romántica before the rest of the world starts moving.
The air is a little cooler. The streets are quiet. The only sound is the distant call of a tropical bird or the faint rustle of palm leaves. For a solo traveler like me, this is the best part of the day. It’s my time to breathe, stretch, and get my head right before the sun gets high and the energy of Old Town picks up.
If you are looking for the ultimate way to start your day, a solo morning yoga routine is it. You don't need a fancy studio. You just need a little bit of floor space and a view that makes your heart happy. I’ve found that the right environment makes all the difference in how my practice feels.
Finding the Perfect Practice Space
When I’m staying in one of our luxury vacation rentals Puerto Vallarta, the first thing I do is scout out my "Zen Zone." Usually, this is right by the floor-to-ceiling windows. I love feeling the early morning light hit my skin. It’s like a natural alarm clock that tells my body it’s time to move.
In the Zona Romántica, every morning feels like a fresh start. If you are staying at a place like Puerto Vallarta condo rentals, you probably have an incredible living area with plenty of natural light. I like to move the coffee table just a few inches to make room for my mat. Having that open space makes me feel like I have all the room in the world to breathe.

There is a specific kind of peace that comes with being alone in a beautiful space. No kids running around. No loud groups. Just me and the view. If you are a solo traveler, you know exactly what I mean. That solitude is a gift. It allows you to focus entirely on how your body feels without any distractions.
My Go-To 15-Minute Flow
I usually stick to a 15-minute routine. It’s long enough to wake up my muscles but short enough that I don’t feel like I’m "working out." I want this to be about relaxation, not a high-intensity session. I start with simple movements that help me shake off the sleep.
1. The Grounding Start (Child’s Pose)
I always start here. Knees wide, big toes touching, and my forehead resting on the mat. I take five deep breaths. I think about the day ahead. I think about how lucky I am to be in Puerto Vallarta. This pose is SOOO grounding. It helps me feel connected to the earth.
2. Cat-Cow Stretch
Next, I move to my hands and knees. This is the best part for my spine. I inhale, arch my back, and look up (Cow). Then I exhale, round my back, and tuck my chin (Cat). I do this for about two minutes. It feels AMAZING on my back after a long flight or a day of walking the cobblestone streets.
3. Downward Facing Dog
I tuck my toes and lift my hips. This is where I start to feel the energy flow. I "pedal" my feet, stretching out my calves. The blood starts moving to my brain, and I suddenly feel awake. If the windows are open, I can smell the ocean air and the faint scent of hibiscus from the gardens below.

4. Forward Fold and Bridge Pose
I walk my feet to my hands and just hang. I let my head be heavy. All the tension in my neck just disappears. After that, I lie on my back and move into a Bridge Pose. I lift my hips and press my feet into the floor. It strengthens my legs and opens my chest. It feels so powerful.
5. The Final Savasana
I end every session lying flat on my back. I close my eyes. I listen to the sounds of Old Town waking up. I hear a broom sweeping a nearby sidewalk. I hear a distant taco stand setting up for the day. I stay here for at least three minutes. It’s the most important part of the routine.
Taking It Outside: Davannayoga
While I LOVE my solo sessions in my condo, sometimes I want to feel the energy of a community. If I’m feeling social, I’ll head over to Davannayoga. They are a staple in Old Town. The instructors there are so kind and welcoming to solo travelers. Even if you are a beginner, you will feel right at home.
Whether you practice on your own balcony or join a class, the key is consistency. Getting that flow in early makes the rest of the day feel so much smoother. You’ll find yourself more patient, more observant, and definitely more relaxed as you explore the town.

Why Old Town is the Ultimate Yoga Destination
There is a soul to Old Town Puerto Vallarta that you won't find anywhere else. It’s in the colorful tiles, the friendly "Buenos días" from neighbors, and the way the jungle meets the sea. When you practice yoga here, you aren't just doing poses; you are absorbing that energy.
I’ve written before about how this place can change your perspective. If you want to read more about my personal journey with finding peace here, check out Solo Escape: Finding My Zen in Old Town Puerto Vallarta. It’s all about letting go of the stress from back home and embracing the "Pata Salada" lifestyle.
Solo travel is the perfect time for self-reflection. When you are on your own, you get to decide the pace. If you want to spend an extra ten minutes in a seated fold because it feels good, you can. There is no one waiting for you to finish. No one asking what’s for breakfast. It is pure, unadulterated freedom.
Fueling Up After the Flow
Once I’ve finished my routine, I don't rush into the day. I like to linger. I usually make a cup of local coffee and sit on the balcony for a bit. The view of the mountains turning from blue to green as the sun hits them is something I never get tired of.

Old Town has some of the best coffee shops and breakfast spots within walking distance. After my yoga, I’ll grab my bag and head out for a walk. The air is still fresh, and the humidity hasn't kicked in yet. It’s the perfect time to explore the hidden alleys and find a new favorite cafe.
Living the digital nomad life or just taking a solo vacation means you have the luxury of time. Use it. Don't overschedule yourself. Let the morning yoga be the anchor of your day. Everything else: the beach, the shopping, the dinners: will be better because you started with a clear mind.
Final Thoughts for the Solo Traveler
If you are coming to Puerto Vallarta, I highly recommend bringing a travel mat or just using a towel in your rental. Don't skip the morning movement. It changes everything. You’ll feel taller, lighter, and more connected to this beautiful city.
We LOVE seeing how our guests make these spaces their own. Whether you are doing sun salutations in front of a mural or meditating with a view of the bay, it’s all about finding your flow.
