I have a secret about Puerto Vallarta. Everyone talks about the glitz of the big resorts, but the real magic happens in the hills.
Specifically, the hills of 5 de Diciembre.
I wake up every morning in this neighborhood and feel like I’ve actually arrived in Mexico. Not the "all-inclusive" version, but the real one.
The one with the sounds of brooms sweeping cobblestones and the smell of fresh tortillas.
If you are a solo traveler, this is your sanctuary. There is no better place to master the art of the slow morning.
Waking Up with the Sun
My day always starts at Casa CC.
I love waking up here because the light is just… WOW.
I’m not a morning person usually. Back home, I hit snooze five times. But here?
I want to see the sky turn pink over the Bay of Banderas. I want to hear the birds in the Sierra Madre mountains behind me.
The view from the window is my morning coffee before I even have coffee. I sit on the balcony for a few minutes and just breathe.
It is so quiet. No traffic, no screaming crowds. Just me and the ocean.
If you want to find your own slice of peace, checking out some puerto vallarta condo rentals in this area is a total game-changer.
It makes the whole experience feel so much more personal.
The Walk to the Mercado
By 8:00 AM, I’m ready to move.
I head down the steep hills toward the ocean. The walk is a workout, but the views are AMAZING!!
I always pass by the little local shops. The "tienditas."
I love seeing the neighbors out front, chatting and starting their day. People are so friendly here. A quick "Buenos días" goes a long way.
My first stop is always the area near the cemetery and the Mercado del Mar.
The colors are just so vibrant. You see piles of bright orange papayas and deep red dragon fruit.

I highly recommend finding a fruit vendor and getting a big cup of mango.
Get it with lime and Tajín. Trust me on this. It is the best breakfast you will ever have for just a few pesos.
I usually stand there and eat it while watching the town wake up. It’s a simple pleasure, but it’s my favorite part of the day.
Finding My Focus
After the fruit, I need my caffeine.
As a digital nomad, my work-life balance is everything.
I don't want to spend all day inside. I want to work from places that feel like a vacation.
5 de Diciembre is full of these spots.
I wander toward the Malecón or duck into one of the hidden cafes for digital nomads that only the locals really know about.
There is something so satisfying about answering emails while hearing the waves crash nearby.
It doesn't feel like work. It feels like living.
I spend a couple of hours getting through my tasks. The internet is usually great, and the coffee is always fresh.
But best of all, I don't feel rushed. Nobody is trying to flip the table or push me out.
I can just BE.
A Stroll on Playa Camarones
Once the "must-do" items are off my list, I head to the sand.
Playa Camarones is the main beach in 5 de Diciembre.
It’s different from the beaches in the southern part of town. It’s wider. It’s quieter.
I love walking along the shoreline. The water is usually a bit more energetic here, and the sand is soft.

I see people fishing. I see couples walking their dogs.
But mostly, I see space.
As a solo traveler, sometimes you just want space to think. To reflect.
I find a spot under a palm tree and just watch the horizon. The mountains wrap around the bay like a big hug.
It is SOOO beautiful.
I usually take a few photos for our Instagram because the light on the water is just perfect at this time of day.
The "Slow" Philosophy
Why do I love 5 de Diciembre so much?
It’s because it forces you to slow down.
In other parts of town, everything is fast. People are selling things. Music is blasting.
But here, the rhythm is dictated by the sun and the hills.
You have to walk slowly because the hills are steep. You have to wait for your coffee because it’s made with care.
This neighborhood is for the traveler who wants to feel the heartbeat of the city.
It’s for the person who values a quiet workspace and a stunning view over a crowded bar.
I’ve stayed in a lot of places, but the condos here feel like home.
They are modern but still feel like Puerto Vallarta.

My Recommendation
If you are planning a trip to PV and you want to avoid the typical tourist traps, 5 de Diciembre is the answer.
It is safe. It is authentic. It is GORGEOUS.
I highly recommend staying in this part of town.
Whether you are here for a week or a month, you will find your own morning ritual.
You’ll find your favorite taco stand. You’ll find the spot on the beach where the waves are just right.
And best of all, you’ll find a sense of peace that is hard to get anywhere else.
Don't rush it. Let the morning take its time.
The art of the slow morning isn't just about what you do. It's about how you feel.
And in 5 de Diciembre, you feel AMAZING.
