We have been living and working in Puerto Vallarta for years now, and honestly, we LOVE it! One of the biggest questions we get from other couples and digital nomads is how to find a community. Moving to a new country can feel a bit lonely at first, but Amapas is such a special place for making connections. It is tucked right into the hills but so close to all the action.
If you are a solo traveler or a couple working remotely, Amapas is truly the perfect home base. It feels like a quiet sanctuary, but you are just a short walk away from the buzzing streets of Zona Romántica. We always tell our guests that the best part of staying here is the balance. You get the peace of the mountains and the social life of the beach all in one day!
Meeting people here is so easy if you know where to look. We have found that the digital nomad community in PV is one of the most welcoming groups in the world. Everyone is in the same boat, looking for good Wi-Fi, great tacos, and friendly faces.
The Amapas and Zona Romántica Vibe
In our experience, Amapas and Zona Romántica are essentially the same neighborhood when it comes to your social life. You might live up on the hill in Amapas for those AMAZING ocean views, but your "office" and your social hub will be down in the flat streets of Old Town.
It is a very walkable area! We spend most of our mornings walking down the stairs from Amapas into the heart of the city. You will see the same faces every day, the fruit vendors, the coffee shop owners, and other nomads headed to their favorite spots. This daily routine is the first step to feeling like a local.

If you want to get a head start on exploring the area, we highly recommend checking out some walking tours in Puerto Vallarta. It is the best way to learn the layout of the streets and find those hidden alleys where the best coffee is hidden.
Coffee Shops: The Nomad Watercooler
For us, coffee shops are where the magic happens. Since we work from home, getting out of the house for a few hours is essential for our sanity! Puerto Vallarta has some of the coolest, laptop-friendly cafes we have ever seen.
El Sofa Café is one of our absolute favorites. It feels like sitting in someone’s very cozy living room. The Wi-Fi is reliable, and the owner is so friendly. You will almost always see someone else with a laptop there. Don't be shy! A simple "Is this seat taken?" or "How is the Wi-Fi today?" is often all it takes to start a conversation.
Another great spot is Puerto Café. It is small, hip, and the coffee is SOOO good. It is a bit more of a "get stuff done" vibe, but it is a magnet for serious remote workers. We have met developers, writers, and designers just by hanging out there during the lunch rush.

Coworking Spaces as Social Hubs
If you need a more professional setup or just want a guaranteed community, coworking spaces are the way to go. Vallarta CoWork is the original spot in town and they do an AMAZING job of bringing people together.
They host Friday group lunches and social meetups that are perfect for couples. It can be hard to break into a new group when there are two of you, but these organized events make it so natural. We have made some of our best friends at these lunches!
Joining a coworking space even for a few days a week can really change your experience of digital nomad life in Puerto Vallarta. It gives you a reason to get dressed and leave the condo, and you’ll find that the coworking crowd often organizes beach days and weekend trips together.

Activities for Meeting People
Beyond work, we think the best way to meet people is through shared interests. Puerto Vallarta is full of active, outdoorsy people.
We love taking a morning hike on the Sierra Madre trails. You can start right near Amapas and hike south toward the hidden beaches. You will often run into other hikers along the way. It is a very social trail!

If you are more of a foodie, the local taco stands are your best friend. Standing around a taco cart at 2 PM is a peak social experience. You’ll be rubbing elbows with locals and other travelers alike. Everyone is happy because the food is incredible!
We also suggest looking into yoga classes or even Spanish lessons. Many nomads congregate at the yoga studios in Zona Romántica. It is a great way to meet like-minded people who value wellness and local culture.
Finding Your Home Base in Amapas
To really enjoy this lifestyle, you need a place that feels like home but also works as an office. We have two properties in Amapas that are perfect for this.
The Nest in Amapas is one of our most popular choices for couples. It has a bright, open feel that makes working from home a total breeze. The views are just stunning, and you are close enough to the action that you never feel isolated.
If you want something with a slightly different vibe, the Hummingbird vacation rental is another fantastic option. It is comfortable, modern, and has that authentic Puerto Vallarta charm that we are so proud of. Both of these rentals are remote-work friendly with fast internet and plenty of space to spread out.

Final Thoughts
Connecting with the community in Amapas is all about being present. Walk the streets, visit the same coffee shops, and don't be afraid to say hello. The people here are what make Puerto Vallarta so special!
We are so grateful to be part of this community and we can't wait to welcome you to our little corner of paradise. If you are planning your next remote work stint, Amapas is highly recommended!
