Amapas in Full Daylight: Scenic Places to Pause and Connect

I have spent years exploring Puerto Vallarta on foot. Amapas is still one of my favorite places to slow down, take in the scenery, and reconnect with the people and places around me.

This hillside neighborhood gives couples and solo travelers something special. You get peaceful green spaces, bright ocean views, small beaches, and easy access to local life. Best of all, you can enjoy much of it in full daylight, when the colors of the bay and Sierra Madre really stand out.

If you are staying in Amapas as a digital nomad, these scenic pauses also make a great break between work sessions.

1. Start at Los Muertos Pier and Walk Toward Playa Amapas

One of my favorite short walks begins at Los Muertos Pier.

From there, follow the beach south. The view changes quickly. You move from the lively shoreline into a quieter coastal section with rocks, waves, and open views across Banderas Bay.

The walk toward El Púlpito takes about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on how often you stop. I always recommend stopping often. The water is bright blue, the hills rise behind the neighborhood, and the view back toward Old Town is colorful and full of movement.

The path includes steps and uneven sections. I wear shoes or sandals with a good grip. Flip-flops are not my first choice here.

At the top of El Púlpito, you can pause above the shoreline. It is not a large lookout. That is part of its charm. A couple can sit together for a few quiet minutes, while a solo traveler can enjoy the view without needing a long hike.

From there, the route continues toward Playa Amapas.

2. Sit Quietly at Playa Amapas

Playa Amapas feels more tucked away than the main beach. It is a small cove with rocks, clear water, and natural shade from tropical plants.

I like visiting in bright daylight because the details are easy to see. You can watch small waves move around the rocks. You can see the green hills above the shore. You can also find a comfortable place to sit and enjoy a quiet conversation.

For couples, this is a lovely place to put your phone away for a while. Talk. Read. Swim if conditions feel comfortable. Let the beach set the pace.

For solo travelers, Playa Amapas is a simple place to reset. Bring water, a book, or a notebook. The cove gives you enough calm to think without taking you far from the city.

The shoreline can feel different depending on the tide. I prefer exploring during comfortable daylight conditions, especially when I plan to continue along the coastal path.

3. Continue the Coastal Walk Toward Conchas Chinas

If you want to turn a short walk into a longer outing, continue south from Playa Amapas.

The coastal route passes rocky sections, small coves, and short stairways. The scenery keeps changing. One moment, you are beside the water. The next, you are walking near green hills and quiet hillside residences.

The path toward Conchas Chinas is a great choice for couples who enjoy active days together. It gives you plenty of reasons to pause. You can take photographs, look for small tide pools, or simply watch the boats move across the bay.

The surface is not perfectly flat. Wear comfortable shoes and take your time. I also keep my phone in a secure pocket because I like having both hands free on steeper sections.

You can continue toward the Lindo Mar area if you want a longer beach-hopping walk. For a more relaxed outing, turn back once you have enjoyed the coves and views that interest you most.

4. Take the Amapas Hillside Route

Amapas is not only about the coast. The hills above the neighborhood offer a very different experience.

As you climb, the city begins to look smaller below you. Green tropical plants fill the spaces between buildings. On clear days, Banderas Bay stretches wide across the horizon.

I love this route when I need to clear my head. It is active enough to wake me up, but scenic enough to feel like a real escape.

The hills include steep streets, stairs, and natural trail sections. This is not a flat stroll. Bring water and allow extra time if the weather feels warm.

A solo digital nomad can use this walk as a mental reset before returning to a laptop. Couples can make it a shared challenge. The best moments often come from the small pauses along the way, not from reaching the highest point.

5. Find a View From Your Own Balcony

One of the easiest ways to connect with Amapas is to choose a place where the scenery is part of your daily routine.

I love having a view that invites me to pause without planning a full outing. A balcony can become a quiet reading spot, a place to enjoy coffee, or a comfortable space to step away from work.

Panoramic ocean, mountain, and city view from a Puerto Vallarta condo

For a couple seeking a peaceful base near the beach, Puerto Vallarta condos for rent by owner at Casa Mi Sueño offer a one-bedroom setting with a king bed, high-speed Wi-Fi, a kitchen, and views of the bay and mountains. The location is tucked into the Amapas hills, while Los Muertos Beach remains a short walk away.

The Nest is another option for travelers looking for condo rentals in Puerto Vallarta. It offers a one-bedroom space for two, a long balcony, high-speed Wi-Fi, a kitchen, and a peaceful setting surrounded by tropical greenery.

These details matter when you are balancing exploration with remote work. I want a comfortable place to return to after a walk. I also want enough quiet to focus when the workday begins.

6. Make Time for a Daylight Viewpoint Pause

Amapas rewards people who do not rush.

You do not need to complete a long hike to enjoy the neighborhood. A 20-minute walk can give you ocean views. A few steps up the hill can reveal a new angle across the bay. A short pause beside the water can change the feel of your entire day.

I suggest choosing one main goal and leaving room for surprises.

You might begin with the Los Muertos Pier and finish at Playa Amapas. You might walk through the hillside and stop at a viewpoint. Or you might take a short coastal walk before returning to your condo for a focused work session.

A Simple Amapas Daylight Plan

Here is the route I would suggest for a couple or solo traveler visiting for the first time:

  1. Start with a comfortable walk to Los Muertos Pier.
  2. Follow the shoreline toward El Púlpito.
  3. Pause at the lookout and take in the bay.
  4. Continue to Playa Amapas.
  5. Swim, read, or sit in the shade.
  6. Walk toward Conchas Chinas if you still have energy.
  7. Return to Amapas for a quiet work session.
  8. Finish with time on your balcony.

You do not need to pack your day with activities. Amapas is at its best when you leave space to notice small details.

Look at the color of the water. Listen to the waves around the rocks. Notice how the hills meet the city. These simple moments are often what stay with me longest.

My Final Recommendation

Amapas is one of my favorite places in Puerto Vallarta for a scenic daylight walk. It works beautifully for couples who want quiet time together and for digital nomads who need nature between work sessions.

The best places to pause are Playa Amapas, El Púlpito, the coastal path toward Conchas Chinas, and the green hills above the neighborhood.

Wear comfortable shoes. Bring water. Leave room for unplanned stops.

If you want ocean views, tropical scenery, peaceful walks, and a more personal Puerto Vallarta experience, staying in Amapas is highly recommended.
