I am someone who truly believes that the best way to see a city is alone.
Don't get me wrong, I love my friends. But there is something so incredibly special about waking up, grabbing a coffee, and deciding exactly where the wind is going to take you without having to check in with anyone else.
Yesterday was one of those days for me.
I’ve been staying in Puerto Vallarta for a while now, and I realized I hadn't spent enough time just getting lost in the Art District. So, I put on my favorite walking shoes, grabbed my camera, and headed out for a solo afternoon of pure inspiration.
If you are a solo traveler, you HAVE to do this. It is easily one of the best ways to connect with the "soul" of this town.
The Magic of the Cobblestones
The afternoon started in the heart of Old Town. If you know me, you know I LOVE the vibe here. The streets are lined with these beautiful, bumpy cobblestones that force you to slow down. You can’t rush here, and honestly, why would you want to?
I started my walk near some of the most beautiful puerto vallarta rentals old town has to offer. There is a certain energy in this part of the city that you just don't find anywhere else. It’s a mix of old-world charm and modern creativity.

As I walked, the smell of salt from the ocean mixed with the scent of blooming bougainvillea. It was perfect. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, which is the best way to find the coolest stuff.
Stepping Into the Galleries
My first stop was a tiny gallery tucked away on a side street. The door was wide open, and the walls were covered in bright, bold canvases.
I met the artist, a local man who had been painting the bay for over twenty years. We talked for a few minutes about how the light changes over the mountains at sunset. That’s the thing about being solo, you end up having these amazing little conversations with locals that you might miss if you were busy talking to a travel partner.
I spent a long time looking at the Huichol beadwork. If you haven't seen it in person, it is STUNNING. Every single tiny bead is placed by hand to create these intricate, spiritual patterns. It’s the kind of art that makes you stop and really think about the patience and soul that goes into a piece of work.
The art here isn't just for decoration. It feels like a heartbeat.
The Life of a Puerto Vallarta Digital Nomad
After a couple of hours of gallery hopping, I found a little café to sit and check my emails. This is the beauty of being a puerto vallarta digital nomad. I can spend my morning working from my laptop and then treat my afternoon like a total vacation.
It is so easy to find a balance here. I saw a few other people with their laptops out, likely staying in some of the many puerto vallarta apartments nearby. We all shared that "isn't this life great?" look.
If you’re thinking about coming down here to work remotely, I wrote a bit more about how to set up your day in my post about Mindful Mornings: My Favorite Solo Spots in PV. It’s all about finding those quiet pockets of peace before the city really wakes up.

Having a home base that feels like an actual home is key. When I go back to my place after a day of looking at art, I want to see art on my own walls, too! Many of the rental properties in puerto vallarta are decorated with local pieces, which keeps that creative energy flowing even when you’re just relaxing on the sofa.
Finding Inspiration in the Details
As the sun started to get lower in the sky, the colors in the Art District became even more intense. The shadows on the white-washed walls and the way the light hits the hanging flags (papel picado) is a photographer's dream.
I found myself standing in front of a huge mural of a whale. It was so detailed and covered almost an entire side of a building. I stood there for probably ten minutes just taking it in.
No one was rushing me. No one was asking if I was ready to go get dinner. I just sat there and enjoyed the silence and the beauty.
If you ever feel overwhelmed by the busier parts of the city, I highly suggest finding these quieter artistic corners. I talked about finding that kind of calm in another post, Solo Serenity: Finding Peace in the Hidden Corners of Gringo Gulch, which is another great walk if you’re in the mood for exploring.
Why a Solo Afternoon is a Must
A lot of people ask me if I ever get lonely wandering around by myself. The answer is honestly no.
In the Art District, you are surrounded by the thoughts, dreams, and expressions of hundreds of different people. Every painting and sculpture is a window into someone else's soul. You’re never really alone when you’re surrounded by that much life.
Plus, when you stay at some of the best condos for rent in puerto vallarta, you’re usually right in the middle of it all. You can walk out your front door and be at a world-class gallery in five minutes.

It makes the whole experience feel so seamless. You don't need a car, you don't need a map, you just need a sense of curiosity.
My Top Tips for Your Solo Art Walk
If you’re planning your own solo afternoon, here is what I recommend:
- Start Late: Many galleries don't open until the afternoon, so there is no need to rush.
- Bring Water: Even though you're ducking in and out of air-conditioned shops, the humidity can sneak up on you!
- Talk to the Gallery Owners: They are so proud of the work they show and usually have the best stories about the artists.
- Put the Phone Away: Besides taking a few photos, try to just be there. Look at the textures. Notice the colors.
I ended my day feeling so full of ideas. My brain was buzzing with all the colors and shapes I had seen. It’s amazing how a few hours of looking at beautiful things can completely reset your mood.
Coming Home to Comfort
After my long walk, I was so happy to head back to a quiet, comfortable space.
When you're looking for puerto vallarta rentals old town, you really want a place that feels like a sanctuary. Somewhere you can kick off your shoes, maybe pour a glass of wine, and look out at the mountains while you process everything you saw.

I feel so lucky to be able to call this place home, even if it’s just for a while. The combination of the art, the people, and the beautiful puerto vallarta apartments makes it the perfect destination for anyone who needs a little soul-searching.
If you’re looking for a place to stay that puts you right in the heart of this creative energy, I can’t recommend looking at the condos for rent in puerto vallarta enough. Staying in a spot that supports your solo journey makes all the difference in the world.
