We have lived in Puerto Vallarta for a long time.
Every single evening, we still stop what we are doing to look at the sky.
The sunsets here are simply UNBELIEVABLE!!
If you are a couple looking for a romantic getaway, watching the sun dip below the horizon of Banderas Bay is a must.
It is the best way to end your day and start your night.
We love how the sky turns into a painting of bright oranges, deep pinks, and soft purples.
Since we run a local family business, we know all the best places where you can get away from the crowds.
We want you to have those quiet, magical moments together.
Here are our absolute favorite spots for couples to catch the sunset in Puerto Vallarta.
1. Los Muertos Pier (The Iconic View)
You cannot visit Vallarta without seeing the Los Muertos Pier.
It is the heart of the Old Town.
The pier itself looks like a giant sail.
At night, it lights up with all sorts of colors.
But just before that, during the "golden hour," it is the most romantic place to be.
We highly recommend walking to the very end of the pier.
The breeze feels AMAZING on your skin.
You can stand there hand-in-hand and watch the sun go down right over the water.
The way the light hits the low-rise buildings along the shore is just beautiful.
It feels so authentic and local.
If you are staying in one of our zona romantica puerto vallarta rentals, you are just a short walk away from this spot.
We LOVE how easy it is to just walk out your door and be at the pier in minutes.
It makes the whole evening feel so easy and stress-free.

2. Conchas Chinas (The Secluded Paradise)
If you want something a bit more private, you have to go to Conchas Chinas.
We call this the "hidden gem" of the south side.
The beach here is very different from the main Los Muertos beach.
It has these beautiful natural rock formations that create tiny, private tide pools.
It is sooo quiet and peaceful here.
There are no big crowds or loud music.
Just the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks.
We think it is the perfect spot for a romantic picnic.
You can grab some local snacks and a bottle of wine and just sit on the sand.
The views of the Sierra Madre mountains meeting the ocean are stunning.
We actually wrote more about this area in our post about Quiet Romance: Hidden Gems.
It is definitely one of those off-the-beaten-path places that we tell all our friends about.
Make sure to bring your camera because the colors here are always VIBRANT.

3. Walking the Malecón
The Malecón is our famous boardwalk.
It is about a mile long and runs right along the ocean.
We love walking here in the evening.
There is so much energy and life.
You will see local artists, street performers, and people selling fresh fruit.
But even with all the excitement, it is still very romantic for couples.
We like to start at one end and just wander slowly.
You can stop and look at the bronze sculptures along the way.
As the sun starts to set, the whole walkway glows.
The best part is that you can see the sunset from almost any point on the Malecón.
It is a great way to experience the local culture while enjoying the natural beauty of the bay.
We always feel so grateful to live in such a colorful and lively city.
Everything feels so bright and happy.
If you want to see more of our daily life and sunset photos, check out our Instagram.
We post there all the time so you can see what is happening in town!
4. Amapas Beach (The Local Secret)
Just past the Los Muertos Pier is a smaller beach called Amapas.
It is tucked away behind a small rocky point.
Because you have to walk over a little hill to get there, it stays much quieter.
We love this spot for a late afternoon swim followed by the sunset.
The water is usually very calm here.
It feels very intimate, like you have your own little piece of the ocean.
The hillside is covered in lush green jungle, which makes the orange sunset colors pop even more.
If you are looking for a place to stay nearby, we highly recommend checking out Amapas Hillside.
It is such a beautiful part of town.
You get the best of both worlds: the peace of the hills and the beauty of the beach.
It is so romantic and quiet.
We think it is the best place for couples who want to relax and just be together.
5. Mirador de la Cruz (The 360 View)
For the couples who like a little bit of adventure, you have to hike up to the Mirador de la Cruz.
It is a bit of a climb, but the view from the top is TOTALLY WORTH IT!!
You get a 360-degree view of the entire city and the bay.
You can see the red-tiled roofs of the Old Town and the deep blue of the Pacific.
When the sun starts to go down, the whole city begins to twinkle.
It is one of the most breathtaking things you will ever see.
We recommend going about 30 minutes before sunset so you can find a good spot.
Don't forget to bring some water for the walk up!
It is a great way to get some exercise and then be rewarded with the best view in town.
We love seeing the contrast between the mountains and the sea from up there.
It makes you realize how special Puerto Vallarta really is.
6. Your Private Balcony
Honestly, sometimes the best spot is right where you are staying.
Many of our puerto vallarta old town condo rentals have incredible ocean views.
There is nothing quite like sitting on your own private balcony with a cold drink.
You don't have to worry about crowds or finding a spot.
You can just relax in your pajamas if you want!
We make sure our condos are cozy and comfortable so you can feel right at home.
The sunsets from our balconies are some of our favorites.
The way the light reflects off the water and into the room is so magical.
It is the perfect setting for a romantic evening in.
You can watch the sky change colors while you plan your dinner for the night.
We love providing these kinds of experiences for our guests.
It is why we do what we do!

Tips for the Perfect Sunset Evening
We want your romantic evening to be perfect.
Here are a few things we have learned over the years.
First, check the sunset time!
It changes throughout the year, so make sure you are ready.
Second, bring a light sweater or wrap.
Sometimes when the sun goes down, a nice cool breeze comes off the ocean.
Third, take your time.
The best colors often happen 10 or 15 minutes after the sun has actually disappeared.
That is when the sky really turns bright pink and purple.
Don't rush away!
Stay and enjoy the "blue hour."
It is just as beautiful and even more peaceful.
We are so lucky to have these views every day.
We hope you get to experience them soon.
Puerto Vallarta is a place of magic and romance.
We can't wait to welcome you to our family-owned corner of paradise.
Whether you are on the beach or on your balcony, the sunset will be something you never forget.
It is the heart of the Vallarta experience.
We highly recommend making time for it every single day of your trip!
See you soon in sunny Mexico!
