I have lived in Puerto Vallarta for years and I absolutely LOVE helping people find their perfect spot here!!
Traveling alone is such an AMAZING way to see the world.
You get to decide everything.
You wake up when you want. You eat where you want.
But I know it can be a little scary picking the right place to stay.
Puerto Vallarta is so welcoming, but every neighborhood has a totally different vibe.
Our family has been hosting guests for a long time.
We see solo travelers come through all the time and they always ask the same thing.
"Where is the best place for me?"
I want to share my insider secrets with you!!
If you are a solo traveler, this guide is for you.
Why the Neighborhood Matters So Much
When you travel by yourself, your neighborhood is your home base.
It is where you’ll grab your morning coffee.
It is where you’ll walk back to after a long day of exploring.
You want to feel safe. You want to feel connected.
And best of all, you want to be close to the action!!
Puerto Vallarta has so many cool pockets.
Some are loud and fun. Others are quiet and green.
Picking the best neighborhoods to stay in Puerto Vallarta depends on what you want to do.
Are you here to work? To party? To hike?
I have seen it all and I am going to break it down for you.
Zona Romántica and Old Town: The Heart of the Action
I have to start with my favorite area.
We treat Zona Romántica and Old Town as the same neighborhood because they really are!!
This is the most famous part of the city for a reason.
It is SOOO vibrant!!
If you stay here, you are right in the middle of everything.
The streets are made of cobblestones.
The buildings are low and covered in bright flowers.
It feels like the real Mexico, but with all the modern comforts you need.
For a solo traveler, this is the BEST place to meet people.
You can walk into any café or bar and make a new friend in five minutes.
The energy is just incredible.

I always tell people that if they want to be social, they should look at puerto vallarta rentals old town.
You can walk to the beach in two minutes.
You can find the best tacos on every corner.
And if you need a great place to stay, we have some incredible options.
You can rent apartments puerto vallarta that put you right in the mix.
Everything is walkable. You don't even need a car or a taxi.
I love walking these streets in the afternoon when the sun is bright and the colors are popping!!
5 de Diciembre: The Local Secret
If you want a vibe that is a little more "local," you have to check out 5 de Diciembre.
This neighborhood is just north of the city center.
It is where a lot of locals live, which I think is so cool!!
You get to see the real daily life of Puerto Vallarta.
There are amazing fish markets and small family-run shops.
It is a bit of a hill, so you get some of the BEST views of the ocean.
I think this is a great spot if you are a puerto vallarta digital nomad.
It is a little quieter than Old Town, but still very close.
You can focus on your work and then walk down to the beach for a break.
The community here is very friendly.
You will see neighbors chatting on their porches and kids playing (though our rentals are strictly for adults!).
It feels very safe and welcoming.
I highly recommend taking a food tour through this area.
You will find things you won't see in the more touristy spots.
It is authentic and BEAUTIFUL!!
Centro: History and Culture
Centro is the literal heart of Puerto Vallarta.
This is where the famous church with the crown is located.
It is right next to the Malecón, which is our big boardwalk.
As a solo adventurer, you will love walking the Malecón during the day.
There is so much art to see!!
The statues are amazing and there is always something happening.
Centro has a lot of history.
The white walls and red tile roofs are exactly what you imagine when you think of Mexico.
It is very easy to navigate.

If you are looking for puerto vallarta rental condos, this area is fantastic.
You get the perfect mix of the ocean and the city.
We love this area because it feels so classic.
You can spend your morning at a local bakery and your afternoon watching the waves.
It is very central, so you can easily explore other parts of town from here.
I LOVE the energy in Centro. It is busy but in a very happy way!!
Conchas Chinas: For the Nature Lovers
Now, if you want something totally different, look south.
Conchas Chinas is known as the "Beverly Hills of Puerto Vallarta."
But don't let that name fool you: it is all about nature!!
The jungle meets the sea here.
It is incredibly green and lush.
For a solo traveler who wants peace and quiet, this is the place.
The beaches here are smaller and much more private.
The water is often very clear and turquoise.
It is a bit of a hike or a quick taxi ride into town, but the views are worth it.
You wake up to the sound of tropical birds every single day.
It is SOOO peaceful!!

When you are looking for a place to stay, you might wonder about the big agencies.
I always suggest looking for Puerto Vallarta condos for rent by owner.
You get that personal touch that makes a huge difference when you are alone.
We take care of our guests like they are family.
We can tell you exactly which trail to take for the best hidden beach.
Conchas Chinas is where you go to recharge your soul.
I find it so inspiring to be surrounded by all that green!!
Staying Safe and Connected
I know safety is a big deal when you travel alone.
Puerto Vallarta is one of the safest cities in Mexico.
But I always tell my friends to stay in the main areas.
Stick to the places I mentioned above and you will be just fine!!
The people here are incredibly kind.
If you ever get lost, just ask!
Most people speak some English and they are happy to help.
I also recommend joining some local groups.
There are plenty of meetups for solo travelers and expats.
It is a great way to find a hiking buddy or someone to grab dinner with.
And of course, we are always here to help you out!!
We love giving our guests the "insider" info on where the locals eat.
You don't have to figure it all out by yourself.
My Final Recommendation
Puerto Vallarta is a dream for solo adventurers.
Whether you want the social buzz of Old Town or the quiet jungle of Conchas Chinas, you can't go wrong.
But if I had to pick just one?
I would say stay in Old Town/Zona Romántica for your first time.
You get the best of everything!
The beach, the food, and the people are all right there.

We would LOVE to host you in one of our family-owned spots.
We pride ourselves on providing a clean, bright, and modern home for you.
Our units have amazing mountain views and plenty of space to relax.
You can check out our latest photos and updates on our Instagram!
We are so proud of our city and we can't wait for you to see it.
Puerto Vallarta is waiting for you.
It is time to find your flow and start your adventure!!
I highly recommend booking your stay early because the best spots go fast.
See you in paradise!!
