Living in Amapas is a total dream.
Since I moved here to work remotely, I have learned that the best part of my day is the lunch break.
If you are a digital nomad like me, you know the struggle.
You want something fast. You want something delicious. But mostly, you just want to get out of the house for a bit!
Amapas is tucked away on the hillside, so it feels quiet and peaceful.
But best of all, it is just a short walk or a quick Uber away from some of the best food in the city.
I spend most of my mornings staring at my laptop screen in our beautiful puerto vallarta rentals old town.
When noon hits, I am ready for some sunshine and a massive plate of tacos.
Here are my absolute favorite spots for a quick, local lunch that will make you LOVE the PV lifestyle even more.
The King of the Quick Fix: Marisma Fish Tacos
If you only have thirty minutes between Zoom calls, you HAVE to go to Marisma.
It is a legendary little stand located just down the hill.
I usually walk there because the steep hills give me a little workout before I eat!
Marisma is famous for their fish and shrimp tacos.
They are crispy, fresh, and served with about ten different types of salsas.
I always go for the "Taco de Camaron Capeado" (battered shrimp).
It is SOOO GOOD.
The service is lightning fast.
You stand at the counter or grab one of the few stools, eat your heart out, and you are back at your desk in no time.
It is exactly what I need when I’m staying in our zona romantica puerto vallarta rentals.
Local Vibes at Tacos El Moreno
Sometimes I want a more "on the street" experience.
That is when I head over to Tacos El Moreno.
This place is as local as it gets.
No fancy menus here!
Just great meat, fresh tortillas, and the sound of the city passing by.
It is a perfect spot for couples too.
My partner and I love grabbing a few tacos al pastor here.
We sit on the plastic stools, watch the vendors go by, and enjoy the authentic Puerto Vallarta energy.
It is cheap, it is cheerful, and it is incredibly satisfying.
If you want to feel like a local, this is the place.
The Nomad’s Choice: Puerto Café
Now, if I need to take my laptop with me, I head to Puerto Café.
As part of The PVGirl community, I know how important good Wi-Fi is!
This café is small but mighty.
The coffee is some of the best I have ever had.
Seriously, they take their beans very seriously here.
For lunch, I usually grab a quick sandwich or a pastry.
It is a great spot to knock out an hour of work while sipping on a cold brew.
The atmosphere is very focused.
You’ll see other digital nomads there too, which makes it feel like a little community hub.
A Page in the Sun: Lunch with a Side of Books
Another great spot for a working lunch is A Page in the Sun.
This place is iconic in the area.
It is a café and a bookstore all rolled into one.
The vibes are so relaxed.
I love coming here on a Tuesday when I want a slower pace.
They have great salads and wraps that feel healthy and light.
Plus, the Wi-Fi is reliable.
If you are staying at The Nest, this is a very easy walk.
I highly recommend their iced tea on a hot day.
It is so refreshing!
Authentic Sit-Down: Café de Olla
If you have a little more time and want a "real" meal, Café de Olla is the spot.
It isn't a taco stand, but it is very traditional.
They serve incredible Mexican plates.
Think chilaquiles that will change your life!
It is a bit more of a sit-down experience, so it is perfect for a lunch date with your partner.
The decor is very colorful and traditional.
It really makes you feel the heart of Mexico.
I always feel so grateful to live in a place with such rich food culture.
Why Amapas is the Best for Foodies
The best thing about staying in Amapas is the variety.
You have the quiet hill with amazing views at Hummingbird.
But in just five minutes, you are in the middle of a food explosion.
Whether you want street food or a quiet café, it is all right there.
I love that I don't need a car to find AMAZING food.
Every lunch break feels like a mini vacation.
I can start my day with some mindful mornings by the waves.
Then I work for a few hours.
Then it's taco time!
It is the perfect balance for anyone working remotely.
My Tips for the Best Lunch Break
If you are planning to work from PV, here is my advice.
First, get out of the house!
It is so easy to stay inside because the views from our rentals are so good.
But the street life is where the magic happens.
Second, carry a little cash.
Most taco stands don't take cards, and you don't want to miss out on those fish tacos!
Third, try something new every day.
There are so many little holes-in-the-wall that don't even have names on Google Maps.
Just follow your nose (and the crowds).
If you see a lot of locals standing around a cart, you know it’s going to be good.
Wrapping it Up
Lunch in Amapas is never boring.
From the fast-paced energy of Marisma to the quiet corners of Puerto Café, there is something for everyone.
I am so lucky to call this neighborhood home.
If you are thinking about visiting, I can't recommend it enough.
It is the perfect spot for couples and solo travelers who want peace but also want to be close to the action.
